Reporting to the Director of Network Transformation, the Project Engineer will support all project initiatives such as estimation, execution, administration, coordination, and communication between the field contractors and our in-house project management & design teams.

The Project Engineer is responsible for project coordination and administration, quality control, submittals & RFIs, scheduling, documentation & reporting, generation of subcontracts, purchase orders and management of contractor pay requests.

Candidates must live in Chicago, IL, as in-office attendance is required.

GENERAL SKILLS

  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles for processing contractor and supplier invoices, providing project budgets. Familiarity with accounting software is beneficial.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial construction estimating and bidding process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word, Bluebeam and Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of construction estimating software, or previous experience performing takeoffs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with RFI and Submittal processes preferred.
  • Previous experience with Procore (Project Management software) beneficial.
  • OSHA certification is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or similar is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to Travel (up to 25%)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Project Engineer will offer administrative support to the project team during the design phase by performing conceptual cost per sq/ft takeoffs.
  • Supports in sourcing of local GCs (using our database, or other tools), reaching out for ROM budgets, insurance requirements, and assists Pre-Construction efforts with bidding as required.
  • Manages the set up of submittals in Procore once a supplement has been signed.
  • Manages the quality control and review of submittals and RFIs during the Pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Collaborates with the project team in coordination of installations, Client and field contractors and suppliers throughout the project – providing updates as required.
  • Manages schedule updates for various projects throughout the course of construction.
  • Provides the minutes of meeting to the Construction Project Manager after weekly OAC calls.
  • Manages contractor and supplier invoices, pay requests and reporting keeping the project team up to date with current project budget.
  • Generates the subcontracts and purchase orders to contractors and suppliers once supplement has been signed.
  • Attends site visits with the Construction Project Manager, assisting with project oversight and coordination of field activities as required.
  • Assists with vetting vendors and subcontractors during bid phase.
  • Assists Estimating with securing “real time” local market costs and trade pricing.
  • Any other duties that Support the Construction Project Manager or Director of Network Transformation require.
